OETEOPOROSIS

Early Diagnosis

OETEOPOROSIS

Maximum bone density is achieved at 30 years of age. From then on it begins to diminish, especially in women after the menopause. This can give rise to osteoporosis which puts the person at risk of developing spontaneous fractures of hips and vertebra in adults as well as in the elderly.

La DEXA DENSITOMETRY allows for measurement of bone density levels to find out if it is necessary to introduce specific treatments to improve them. Ideally a basal densitometry should be taken when the menopause starts and then monitoring the evolution of the bone density every year or every two years.

This should also be carried out if a person has problems of malabsorption, anorexia, hyper- or hypo-thyroidism or in chronic treatments with corticosteroids, for example.
The test takes 10 minutes and generates very little radiation.
