LUNG CANCER

Early Diagnosis

LUNG CANCER

This is the most frequent type of cancer in the Western world and the prognosis is bleak if not detected at an early stage. Surgical removal is the most curative treatment, but it is necessary that the tumour is located in the lung with no spread to lymphatic nodes or other organs.

With early detection of lung cancer, people who are at a high risk of developing lung cancer, but do not present any signs or symptoms of the disease, undergo a detection examination by LOW DOSE SCANNER of the chest.

This examination produces quality images which are sufficient to detect many lung diseases and anomalies by using up to a maximum of 90% less ionizing radiation than the conventional chest CT.

On the basis of results from the National Cancer Institute in the United States and other studies, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, American Lung Association, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Thoracic Surgeons, American Thoracic Society and the American Cancer Society, people at high risk of developing lung cancer are now recommended to consider annual detection with a low-dose lung scanner. This is because it has been shown that mortality rates with this method of control is reduced by 20% and that the majority of tumours detected are at an early stage and can potentially be cured.
