COLON CANCER

Early Diagnosis

COLON CANCER

Colon cancer is the second most frequent type of cancer in women (after breast cancer) and the third in men (after lung and prostate). Early diagnosis greatly increases the probabilities of a cure with less aggressive treatments.

Small clinical signs exist which allow us to detect the cancer, such as changes in intestinal habits, the presence of blood in the stool (darker), loss of weight and appetite, tiredness, etc.

It has been shown that there are factors which can increase the probability of a person developing colon cancer, such as: over 50 years of age, a family history of colon cancer or bowel diseases, intestinal polyps and long-term inflammatory bowel disease.

VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY or COLONOGRAPHY by CT
The inside of the colon (large intestine) is visualised by means of state-of-the-art scanning.
It detects polyps and other lesions in asymptomatic patients, using low radiation and in a less invasive and more tolerable manner, with similar sensitivity to that obtained by conventional colonoscopy, so it is an efficient alternative for the screening of the general population.

It is also useful in cases where conventional colonoscopy cannot be carried out or was not completed due to different reasons.
